Mega Women's Conference in Karachi Feb. 2009

YWAM Pakistan with United Gospel Assemblies Intl.

The first ever large gathering of Christian Ladies for a Leadership Conference is over, but the effects remain. Things are different now! Women no longer feel marginalised or left out. Now they are assured they can be key players in human history, they are of equal value to everyone else.

Joy and Hope sprang forth with ladies rivetted to their seats for two days from 09.00 to 17.00hrs. Held in the working week and during children's exam time, nothing stopped these 5-6,000 women from climbing into a fleet of a hundred buses to hear the messages delivered by Ms Rosemary James MA (Oxon) MSc (London) MA (SOAS) DIC. Some had given up two days' salary, others had even put jobs at risk to make sure they could be there. This was the first time any public event had been held especially for them, they were not going to miss it.

The Assistant Mayor of Karachi, Nazim Nasreen Jalil, welcomed the gathering and opened the meetings. Choirs launched into worship and the sessions delivered by visiting speaker Ms Rosemary James, began. Spontaneous dancing, usually frowned upon in such circles, broke out after the first address and an informal atmosphere of interaction, combined with public addresses, continued throughout. Ms Saira John, a Director of YWAM Pakistan presented original compostions on the lives of Biblical women in history and Ms Sania Yakoob translated all the sessions into Urdu. Saira and Sania, both currently following the DTS course with YWAM Karachi enthusiastically commended the training by word and example. They were not only lady leaders, but also an example of youth leadership in action.

" I am so thrilled to have launched this event. The women have been encouraged beyond all expectation and they will go on to seek education and training opportunities for their future roles in life. YWAM Pakistan will continue to support their initiatives in every way we can." Chairman Zafar Francis MA (London) PgDip (London)

"Everything is different now" declared YWAM Pakistan DTS student Sania, after the event was over, "Something has changed"

Let us hope that the Joy and Hope will go on to envigorate a new generation of women to get involved in changing our world for the good. There is so much they can do, once they become leaders!

A Word from our International Founder, Loren Cunningham:

"Women can do any and all that God calls them to do if they do it in faith and humbly (this is true for men too!). In fact, women can often do things in certain areas, like the Middle East, in ways that are even more effective because of their gender. Listen to and obey the Lord and trust Him for what you cannot do. Expect fruit that remains."
